Tip-In Points: Rondo Or Rondon’t … There Is No Try

Anyone can suggest adds and drops for the NBA fantasy fans out there, but few make those suggestions from the gut.  We’ve also sprinkled in tons of helpful stats for all fantasy formats too. Because that’s the kind of fantasy help you deserve.

Rajon Rondo, BOS Dwight Howard leads the league in free throw attempts with 313. That’s a smidge over 10 attempts a game. Among fantasy owners, the fact that Howard has only made 60 percent of those shots is a big consideration. He’s always kept out of the top 10 and even top 20 fantasy options because of this albatross. But what about Rondo? Few would consider him a top 20 fantasy candidate, but why aren’t more people discussing his awful percentage from the stripe? I guess, technically, I’m discussing it. So there’s that. I’m off the hook. But the rest of you? What’s YOUR deal? Is it because he’s attempted 239 fewer freebies? Yeah. I bet it is.

Rondo’s .527 is bad, but Howard’s .601 weighs more, right? Therefore it’s worse. Okay. But remember this, Rondo will end up shooting only a third of Howard’s free throws, but that third will actually be worse than any third of Howard’s free throw shooting this year. That’s like having an bad Howard from January through March and then trading him. There aren’t many centers who do what Dwight does. Can the same be said for Rondo at the point?

Look what else happened on Sunday.

Chris Bosh, TOR 25/16 against the slow-paced Pistons. OshBosh is the only player in the league ranked in the top six in both total points and rebounds. And you wonder why he’s pissed no one mentions him in the same breath as LeBron, Carmelo and Wade. You didn’t wonder? Well, perhaps being a little more inquisitive would do you some good.

Ben Gordon, Tayshaun Prince, DET Gordon made his first appearance since December 6. Prince played for the first time since Halloween. I just love when everyone comes back home for the holidays.

Trevor Ariza, HOU Everything goes better on Ariza … except for the leader hat. Dude’s not a leader, which is why he goes through ebbs like the one he’s in now. What ebb you say? The “hasn’t-shot-better-than-.294-since December-19″ ebb. Oh right. You forgot about that.

LeBron James, CLE 29 pts / 5 rbd / 6 asts / 3 stls. That’s a pretty okay line for Bron-Bron. It’s a killer line for anyone else on the Cavs and it’s the type of line I’d get tattooed to my lower back if it happened to me.

Shaquille O’Neal, CLE Shaq double-doubled for just the fourth time this season, while playing only 22:29. Not bad. But in the end – considering that this passes for notablenow for O’Neal – yeah, it is kinda bad.

David Lee, NY Tied a season-high with 28 points on Sunday. It was his highest scoring double-double of the season. More better news is that he blocked someone. It’s been 10 days since he did that.

Chris Duhon, NY A season-high 13 assists. 2-for-9 from the field. Yup. That sounds like a Chris Duhon game.

Chris Andersen, DEN Andersen’s taken three shots in his last three games. Total. And he missed all three of those shots. I’d trot him out there against Portland’s M*A*S*H unit. If nothing comes of it, set him free. This bird you can not cage. ot if he’s only gonna get you 1.4 blocks per game.

Carmelo Anthony, DEN This begins our superstars-who-didn’t-suck-but-nevertheless-let-fantasy-owners-down-last-night section of Tip-In Points. 16/10. It was ‘Melo’s third double-double of the season and yet … 16 points? *sigh* That’s okay, I guess. He’s only scored fewer than 20 points three times this season and they’ve all been in the last three weeks. Also, he’s only shot better than .364 from the floor once in his last seven games. Go ahead and monitor that.

Tim Duncan, SA Timmy B. Duncan dropped an efficient 6-for-11, but it only amounted to 13 points. He also only had seven reebs and a block. You see what I mean? It’s not bad. But, it’s … disappointing. Like getting a new Walkman for Christmas with no batteries in it.

Dirk Nowitzki, DAL Only 13 points. Eleven rebounds too. But that’s it. Not a bad game, just not a Dirk-game. and let’s face it, if Dirk doesn’t have a Dirk-game, it’s just a man with marvelous golden hair having an okay game.

Drew Gooden, DAL I always mis-type his name as “Doc.” Can’t we conjure up some cocaine history for Drew and run with it? Sixth double-double for the Mets pitcher. He didn’t miss any of his eight shots and managed to do it in under 28 minutes. Gee, man. Um … was it just me or did he look hopped up on something? I think he did. I think he was hopped up one something.

Chris Kaman, LAC 27/12 against the defense-y Celtics. We’ll file that in the “bigass dub-dub” column. Someone gimme an Amen! KAMAN! Okay. Close enough.

Earl Watson, IND No points, no rebounds, one assist in 16 minutes of burn. The Earl Watson starter experiment isn’t working out so well. You know how I know? Because this is the first time I’ve thought about him since Russell Westbrook stole the starting spot from him on the Thunder last season.

Mike Dunleavy, IND Cold. Hasn’t scored more than six points in his last four games. Geez, is Indiana’s roster made up only of players who haven’t been relevant in, like, three seasons?

Rasheed Wallace, BOS 0-for-6 from the three-point line. Oh ‘Sheed, you’ve really become a useless fantasy basketball player.

L I N E   O F   T H E   N I G H T

Baron Davis, LAC .636 FG% / 1.000 FT% / 1 3ptm / 24 pts / 3 rbds / 13 asts / 3 stls / 6 to / 1 game-winner. I could do without the turnovers, but if that’s what has to happen for Davis to play like this, so be it. I’d have to check over Amar’e Stoudemire’s season stats, but I’m pretty sure this was one of the three best performances by a bearded player all season.
