NBA Pinstripes: Did 1996 Teach You Nothing?
I’ve yet to visit Charlotte, North Carolina, but when I do I fully expect to see everyone ambling around in pinstriped clothing.
The Charlotte Bobcats unofficially unveiled their new dapper pinstripped look for the 2009-10 season. Just as Charlotte is the latest team to insist on the style, so were they one of the first two teams to introduce this style to the hoops masses back in 1989. For the life of me I haven’t a clue why franchises continue returning to this look as I’m almost certain no one mistakes a basketball jersey for conservative business attire.
It looks stupid, as do all pinstripes not involved with pants. You don’t see baseball players taking the field in shorts do you? Well, okay there was that one time, but everyone agrees that was a total mistake.
Let’s cut the baloney here: pinstripes should reach the shins. All but six NBA franchises have embraced this philosophy. They’ve also embraced the fact that basketball uniforms are a step away from pajamas. Teams like the Magic and Hornets really owe it to themselves to stop aspiring to be more than that.
The next thing you know, baseball players will feel the need to play in tuxedos.
What? Oh.
