The Conspiracy of Wimbledon’s Favoritism Toward Beauty
Halfway through this year’s Wimbledon tournament, stories popped up after a spokesman from the All England Club said that the people who schedule the matches to the courts tend to give the prime spots to the more attractive female athletes. Not surprisingly, the media and the blogosphere (unless bloggers are counted as members of the media, which my lack of a press pass suggests they are not) cried foul and sexism and sexism fouls and foul sexism.
The weirdest thing about the sudden hubbub over hot tennis players is that really, the Wimbledon play committee is far less guilty of it than even they’ve suggested.

Joe Buck: Real-Life Funny Or Just Sports Funny?
HBO insiders said that the volatility of Artie Lange‘s appearance on the premiere episode of HBO’s “Joe Buck Live” sparked those involved to ditch the comedy portion of the show and retreat to the more vanilla format of the other HBO sports programs from Bryant Gumbel and Bob Costas.
It’s an odd decision all around. After all, the show A) airs on HBO, a channel known for not shying away from hot-button conversation from the mouths of controversial people (see: Maher, Bill), B) had only one episode and they’re doing away with the only thing people talked about from it and C) was touted as a forum to display Joe Buck’s long-hidden wit and humor.
How the Draft Should Have Gone
The NBA Draft has come and gone, but the 14 lottery teams got it all wrong. They shouldn’t be going after the top prospects from here and abroad. The Clippers, Grizzlies and other bad NBA teams should have picked up the player that they really need. It might have been a robot, a mom or Kunte Kinte. But had they followed our advice, you can bet that one of these teams would be playing in the Finals one year from now.
